I recently read Toni Morrison’s Home and, like her other novels, left me scratching my head wondering why people rave about her so much. The prose style is clean, the form is interesting and well constructed, other than that I feel rather underwhelmed. What is it that made this book, or any of her other novels so “incredible” “powerful” or a “defining experience”? What am I missing? Or am I just a hopeless philistine?
